In honor of my visit to the High Point market with my sister, I decided to update my blog with a more streamlined contemporary visual theme…please tell me if you like it or not.

If you need an interior designer, check out my sister’s web site here.  Not to brag on her, but she’s done work for people like Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise and David Bowie (I am serious!).

On with the top trends we saw at the global interior market held twice a year in my own back yard of High Point North Carolina.

ORANGE!!!

We saw orange everywhere…it looked especially interesting mixed with weathered, or aged wood, like this chair.  Many of the showrooms called this a “limed wash”.

RUSTIC FRAGMENTS

IMG_1327

Not only were there rustic fragments, like on the lamp above, but weathered and aged touches like chicken wire, burlap, old wood and objects that looked reclaimed (but probably weren’t).  The odd thing is that many of them also had lucite bases, which, as dichotomous as it sounds, sometimes worked well as a modern element of balance, like this lamp below…

As a footnote to above, notice the gold-flecked glass, which, in addition to mercury glass, was prevalent at the show.

SHAGREEN

Everywhere!!  On everything from furniture to objects d’art.

HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR

IMG_1312

Ok, so this is not exactly Hollywood glamour, because we got tired of it really fast, but think mirrored surfaces, mother of pearl,  gilded metal like above and 40′s styled furniture, including numerous rolling bar carts, you get the idea….think The Thin Man.

One of my favorite showrooms was the launch of  Scalamandre’s Port 68, with exquisite furnishings and wonderful color presentation…

Note the high gloss table with gilding and touch of animal…

Other retro touches include LEATHER covered furniture, and HAIRY surfaces of all types.

IMG_1321

Note the leather covered DECO influenced chest of drawers, almost like men’s luggage with the pony-hair covered lamp base!

Still a plethora of WHITE-WASHED furnishings, especially for the bedroom…

But my favorite item from the show was the marble coffee table with its own built in fire pit…oh yeah, that’s what I’m talking about!

How about that for a cool trend?
